  CHALLENGE 2010 - 2011

A  leadership club for middle and high school girls

Q – What is Challenge?  It’s an extracurricular club for middle and high school girls led by high school team leaders where the girls explore their faith, deepen friendships and serve their parish and community in an atmosphere of Christian charity.

Q – Who runs the program?  Where do they meet?  High school team leaders and Young Adults run the weekly meetings and they are trained and coached by group leaders and consecrated members of Regnum Christi.  Our 5th - 8th grade parish girls meet at Stewardship Hall, twice a month on Fridays, from 3:30 – 5:00. We will also join other parish teams for integration activities, about once a month, on a Friday at Blessed Sacrament.   High school age girls meet in private homes twice a month on Saturday afternoons.

Q – How much does it cost?  The program cost is $50 for the year.  These funds cover insurance for the girls, a CHALLENGE t-shirt, a member planner and pen, a canvas bag and their activities.  The girls have a local account for depositing funds raised by outreach programs or donations.  If possible, the Registration Form and fee, the  Permission to Participate Form, Permission to Publish form and Parent Volunteer form  should be turned in to the church office or Jillian Schmitz at RCS by Sept. 17th , please .  Forms are found to the right under Club's Documents.

Q – Is it only during the school year?  CHALLENGE runs weekly during the school year and includes retreats, summer camp and conventions locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.  Our first meeting this year will be in Stewardship Hall at 3:30 on Friday, Sept. 10th.  Parents are asked to attend from 4:45 - 5:00 for a short informative meeting.

Q – Is it just our parish team?  Our local club has girls from over 3 different parishes participating.  We desire for CHALLENGE to continue to grow and reach more local parishes.  CHALLENGE is an international organization.  There are nearly 300 girls participating regionally and the club numbers in the thousands nationally.  CHALLENGE is an International club.  CHALLENGE girls have the chance to meet others at club-wide events, retreats, local conventions and national activities.

Mother Daughter Luncheon and Fashion Show

Saturday, March 6, 2010
Blessed Sacrament

If you were able to attend the luncheon and fashion show I’m sure you enjoyed it.  The room was decorated with pink tulle and lights and we can’t forget to mention the beautiful table decorations that our very own Newby family created.  Thanks guys.

Amy George gave a great talk about the values of Challenge, modesty and a virtuous life.

Our High School Challenge girls modeled outfits for Mass, summer days and evening clothes that displayed modesty with flair.  Mrs. Thom and Mrs. Skinner were our emcees for the fashion show.

You really missed out hearing the models sing the song, “Do My Clothes Fit Right?’ written by Jody Dendurent to a familiar tune.

If you weren’t able to attend, just click on the photo below and you can find more views of our fun event.  Hopefully you’ll be able to come next year.

You may check http://affiliate.purefashion.com/modesty for Guidelines to Modest Clothing if you’d like.  Also, you may find word documents for a copy of the song and a listing of websites for modern and modest fashions in the documents link to the right.

"A Knight to Remember" Father-Daughter Dance

(Saturday, February 6, 2010)

The dance was a great success.  We had over 120 people in attendance. Many of our Resurrection Challenge girls began the night with attending 5:30 Mass together.  Some went out to dinner before heading to the dance.

Once they arrived at the dance, the Knights of Columbus were there to honor their arrival.  Every father and daughter had their keepsake photo taken and then it was time to start dancing.

The DJ kept everyone moving and the mom volunteers kept them well fed with all the many desserts offered.  The cake silent auction even had a cake decorated to look like a swimming pool with shimmering blue “water.”

Thanks to all that helped to make this a special memory for our girls and their fathers.

Bingo with the retired priests

On Oct. 10th, our Challenge team joined with Wichita Challenge groups from Blessed Sacrament and St. Thomas to play bingo with our retired priests. We wanted to celebrate "Year for the Priest" with them.

Formation meetings

Our members are led in their formation meetings by their Team Leaders. The leaders are high school girls who have benefitted from the many fruits of Challenge and now want to give back by leading these girls. We couldn't do it without them. Thank you ladies!

The Charity Challenge

Our Resurrection Club met at Mrs. Pfeifer's house and created a Charity Food Train for a food drive at RCS. On Oct 30th, we took the donated bounty to Catholic Charities and joined the other Wichita Challenge groups there. Once there we spoke with one of the workers and learned that Catholic Charities fees almost 4,000 people a month and is always in need of donations.

We walked to the Cathedral and prayed a rosary for the recipients and donors of the food.

Then it was time to have a little social activity. The girls all enjoyed ice skating. Some of our ladies were pros and some benefited from the kind hearts of others as they assisted them around the rink.

Retreats

Our girls also have the opportunity to attend retreats to further their relationship with Christ.

This year's retreat was held at Prairie Star Ranch near Williamsburg, KS. Our girls joined with other girls from Wichita and the Kansas City area for a great weekend in November.
