Birdhouse Project  Council #11692 conducted the 3rd Annual Birdhouse Project, chaired by our Youth Director Barry Ward, to benefit the RCS 1st grade class taught by Ms. Morgan Schweitzer. The outcome of the project was worth a million dollars when we saw the children's joy as they learned to use a hand saw, cordless drill, hammer, and wood glue to put together birdhouses for martins made of cedar. The goals of the project were to instill confidence in the children that they can build such a project with the aid of a few jigs, design drawings, and instruction from the Knights -- and have FUN.

Habitat for Humanity - Apostle Build 2009  Our Knights, along with other parishioners and other parishes, all joined together to build a second Habitat for Humanity house sponsored by the Diocese of Wichita. The Apostle Build Project was chaired by our Community Director, Dave Babich and his wife Joyce. Click here to see photos.

Breakfast Feeds  The Breakfast Feeds are a big hit with parishioners and serve 200 to 250 families monthly during the school year. Fifty percent of our proceeds from the breakfasts go to supporting our selected seminarians with the other half going towards towards funding our council activities, programs, and charitable donations. Besides seminarians, we help parish Boy and Girl Scouts, Gerard House, A Better Choice, widows of our deceased brother Knights, the parish, and other organization which may need some support.

Outdoor Stations of the Cross  At the nearby Spiritual Life Center, our Knights have been maintaining the Outdoor Stations of the Cross for several years. A labyrinth-like path of paving stones set in gravel takes visitors from an entrance through landscaped section, each section surrounding a monument depicting one of the Stations of the Cross. The cener circle contains the tomb of the risen Christ. At Least twice a year, the Knights hold a clean-up day to remove leaves fallen from the trees during the winter, trimming bushes, weeding, and placing mulch throughout the landscaping. In between, individual council members spray and pull weeds, remove dead bushes, and install new plantings to maintain the site. In February of 2009, the Stations were cleaned up prior to Lent -- on what seemed to be February's only truly cold, winter weekend. Being in the spiritual setting does one's soul good, whether one is praying, following the stations, or quietly maintaining the landscaping.

StepStone  StepStone is jointly sponsored by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ and the Congregation of St. Joseph. It owns two- and three-bedroom homes and two-bedroom duplex units in Wichita. Its goal is to help women and children who have been victims of domestic violence find security, self-sufficiently, and a life free of fear and abuse. This is ahieved through providing safe, affordable housing, support services, and advocacy for these women and their children. Our Knights helped to refurbish one of the homes.

Red Cross Blood Drive  Twice during the year, the Knights help with the Red Cross blood drive by loading and unloading the trucks and helping throughout the drive in various ways.

Tootsie Roll Drive  Each year in October the Knights collect donations within the parish and at local businesses to help those with special needs. This council has always done a great job at this and has won awards for its work.

Knight and Family of the Year  During the past council year, John McCabe was named Knight of the Year and David and Joyce Babich were named the Family of the Year for all they have done for Knights of Columbus Council #11692!
