8th Grade P.E. Fitness Portfolios |
|
|
Starting this year, 8th grade students are required to assemble a Fitness Portfolio in P.E. class, which is to be used as a plan to stay healthy and fit now, in high school, college, and beyond. It entails a series of questions about the food pyramid and asks the students to plan workouts to improve their cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and muscular strength.
The project was assigned the first Wednesday after Christmas Break, January 5th, and is due on April 3rd. There will be a few graded checkpoints before the due date.
This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to discuss fit lifestyles with their children. RCS is blessed with a very healthy student body and this is a great way to reinforce the fit way of life.
Also, when the project is completed, students are encouraged to save all of their work as they will have to create a portfolio as high school freshmen (although they can simply update their existing one if they keep it).
The rubric for the Fitness Porftolio may be found in my "Documents" section.

8th Grade Civil War Scrapbook Winners |
|
|
The 8th Grade just completed a project in which they created scrapbooks for various historical figures who took part in the Civil War. There were a lot of creative ideas put into these books, and I am impressed with the final product! As a class, they studied the scrapbooks, and then gave out the following awards:
MOST CREATIVE - Daniel Kelly
MOST EDUCATIONAL - Armando Castro
CLASS FAVORITE - Claire Thomas
Also, noted Civil War buff Mr. Finkeldei went through the scrapbooks and selected two projects for another award:
PRINCIPAL'S FAVORITES - Georgi Gilchrist and Avery Toombs
Each winner received a gift card to Best Buy and the adulation of their peers.
Way to go students!
